Somewhere along the way, we started believing a strange idea.
-Before you can begin a hobby…you need to buy something.
- A better camera
- A better grill
- A better fishing rod
- A better sewing machine
- A better set of paintbrushes
- A better workshop
- A better…Everything.
The result?
Thousands of dollars spent…Very little time actually creating.
The truth is that many of history’s greatest craftsmen didn’t begin with the best tools. They began with the tools they had.
The hobby came first…The equipment came later.
Today we’ve reversed the order.
We shop first…We create second.
Sometimes we never reach the second part at all. That’s unfortunate because hobbies were never supposed to be another form of shopping.
They were supposed to teach us patience…Skill…Problem-solving…Perseverance.
The tool was never the goal. The person holding it was.
So, before you convince yourself that you need one more purchase before you can start, ask yourself one question:
If someone took away every piece of expensive equipment, would I still love this hobby enough to keep doing it?
-If the answer is yes…You already have everything you need to begin.
-If the answer is no…Maybe it wasn’t the hobby you wanted after all.
This weekend don’t buy something…Build something.
Even if it’s small.
