When I started Hobbies & Homes back in December, the goal was simple. Build something steady. A place where people could slow down, learn useful skills, and create homes filled with things that last.
The past few weeks have changed a lot.
After returning to the United States for the first time in seven years, my mother and I were involved in a serious car accident. We were stopped at a stop sign when another vehicle ran the intersection and t-boned us on the driver’s side. I took the brunt of the impact.
I was in the hospital for about three weeks with multiple injuries and surgeries. Recovery is ongoing, but I’m grateful to be here and moving forward.
My mother was also seriously injured in the accident. She fought hard in the days that followed, but she passed away due to complications.
She believed in family, in doing things the right way, and in taking care of the people around you. A lot of what I value about home and life comes from her.
In situations like this, life suddenly becomes very quiet and very clear at the same time.
All the drama we usually focus on fades away, and what remains are the things that truly matter…family, home, community, and the people who step forward when someone is hurting.
The amount of support I’ve received has been overwhelming in the best possible way. Messages, encouragement, and kindness have come from people I’ve known for years and from people I’ve never met before. I’m grateful for every bit of it.
Losing my mom has made those things feel even more important.
In moments like this, life becomes very clear. What matters isn’t the noise or the constant rush. It’s the people in your home, the time you spend together, and the things you build that last beyond a single day.
That has always been the idea behind Hobbies & Homes.
This site isn’t about trends or filling space. It’s about learning real skills, creating meaningful things, and building a life at home that has some weight to it.
That purpose hasn’t changed. If anything, it’s stronger now.
Things may move a little slower while I recover, but the work continues. There are still projects to share, skills to learn, and a community to build.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support and encouragement. It has meant more than I can put into words.
If you’re new here, welcome.
Let’s keep building things that last.
